Here at Esskaye Books we have set up and a site owned and operated by an independent author - for independent authors. Of course we want to sell our own books (*ahem* available HERE and HERE) but we also want to help authors to promote their books also.
The main ways of promoting are:
A) Writing a short story of 300 - 1500 words which we may publish here. The genre/style is entirely up to you. We will include a bio if you wish to include one and links to your website/online prescience/store. For this Esskaye Books charges NOTHING - all we ask for is a link back to us.
B) A straight forward link swap for websites or a like swap on Facebook or follow swap on Twitter.
Esskaye Books is free for authors to advertise and free for readers to discover talents they hadn't previously encountered.
So... the elephant in the room. Yes, we carry ads. The ads are hopefully going to cover the costs of running the site - my pockets are wearing thin!
So, if you want to join a community of writers just drop a line at email@example.com and you may help us get rid of the ads!
All has been quiet from Esskaye Books for a while but we are still here and supplying top-class fiction and building a platform for independent authors to tell us about themselves.
Drop us an email with a .txt or .doc file, along with any images you would like to include. This chance to advertise yourself is FREE so remember to be entertaining and try to keep the content PG.
The first two phases of Esskaye Books' plan are live(ish). We are just waiting for the posts from the writers! Part three is almost complete and it will be exciting for authors and readers alike. Esskaye Books is a place to be independent but not alone...
It's possible you may have noticed how messy this site has been over the last day. We are reaching the end of our planned maintenance and everything will be back to normal tomorrow.
The changes are in line with our process of constant improvement and the monitoring we have been undertaking on the site!
Sorry for the disruption!
You can try out Esskaye Books titles for free! If you are signed up to Kindle Unlimited or are an Amazon Prime member you can try our books with no cost!
Kindle Online Lending Library

RUNNING A BOOK COMPANY
My name is Marcus but when I write I go by the pen name of M. Leon Smith. I have been an avid reader for all of my life and began writing seriously in 2009 and I now know enough about writing to know I will never run out of things to learn.
Since childhood, I dreamed of seeing my name on the cover of a book but, as I have told in the past, did nothing about it. When I eventually started to write I thought getting my work published would be enough for me and, although each acceptance was exciting, I wanted more.
After some time in the 'writing game' (if I can be so crass to call it that) I became part of a book company. Dead Guns Press specialise in publishing crime fiction 'Noir fiction for a new Era' as the company proudly states. And, for years, DGP scratched my itch to be involved with the creation of books,
During a bout of illness, I became very aware of mortality (I wasn't that ill lol) and decided to get serious about starting a book company.
I had tried self-publishing with the original version of 'Olverston Grange ...and Other Stories' which was published only as an eBook, sold a couple of copies, then disappeared. The name I gave the company was 'Skinned Knuckles', due to my awful wheelchair driving skills and the flesh I lost because of them.
My second go at creating a book company led to 'Esskaye Book' (see what I did there?) This company has a much grander plan. So far I have rewritten 'Olverston Grange ...and Other Stories' and published it as both paperback and eBook. Esskaye Books has also released 'The Blue Jackets' that had previously appeared as a trilogy of short stories but now read as they were always meant to, have almost completed the follow-up to 'The Blue Jackets'. Discussions have begun with some other independent authors to get them onto the company's roster.
Today I need to make some minor graphical changes to the website, write this blog, write a chapter or two of the new book, research some avenues to promote the company is, and promote in others.
Start a book company, they said. It'll be fun, they said. You're right, I replied.
